Theory of Knowledge or Time Management – 10th to 11th April 2010

Theory of Knowledge (TOK)
TOK is an integral and central component of the IB diploma program. The study of the issues raised in TOK classes helps students to address and debate the many ‘problematic’ areas of other fields of study and provides coherence and links to all other areas of your IB curriculum. It does this by exploring the cross-disciplinary nature of knowledge, which encourages an appreciation of social, educational, philosophical and cultural perspectives.

During the intensive course we have on offer you will receive a full day’s tuition in this vital component of your IB diploma from TOK experts currently teaching in International Schools worldwide.

Key Learning Points

  • How to write and present your point of view in TOK essays and debate, in order to support or oppose your own or other’s ideas.
  • How to construct a fair and impartial argument
  • Recognition and acknowledgement of the value of differing points of view in making knowledge claims.
  • Exposure to ways of formulating an opinion or viewpoint on an issue of current relevance and substantiation of opinions with evidence.
  • Thoughtful and purposeful inquiry into different ways of knowing and knowledge based on reading, discussion and questioning.

Time Management
Juggling multiple study commitments is not easy. Combining this with the additional burden of applying to College and University as well as continuing to fit in leisure and family activities can lead to problems with time management.

This in depth course will cover the concepts of effective time management and introduce strategies to enable all students to have control over their own life. These techniques will give students strategies that will continue to be useful at College and in subsequent careers.
